My secret Blog

Well I haven't told anyone about this yet so the only way someone will find it will be quiet random.  I'm such a coward!!

Anyhow for now its enough for me to jot down a few things.

The wet suit fit okay, a bit tight around the neck. Maybe too tight but i could still breath. I will have to take it for a spin this weekend. Im going to feel such a knob swimming in the local pool with it on. Thinking about doing some training in the flooded open pit. It will be a good simulation of open water swimming.
For those that dont know, I live in Kalgoorlie West Australia. It is a mining town. We are pretty much 400klms from the beach and 600klm East of Perth, The State capital. There is bush/scrub all around the town and lots of old mines.

The Sayonara shoes were okay. A little different in design to the Rider 16 shoes, narrower. i wore them with a thin pair of socks on and they were okay. Did an easy 12klm in them.

Today I did 1hr 15 on the wind trainer, it was okay watching the news, but the bloody remote had flat batteries , which was a little frustrating. Definitely a First world problem that one.

I think I will keep publishing this thing in little snippets or nothing will happen.

Iron man training and other rambling.

I have been trying to get some sort of routine this year, as my motivation was pretty low at the beginning of the year. My friends have been a great help. I find it is so much easier to get out of bed when you have the commitment of meeting someone else.

Ha, That can be training tip #1. Train with a friend.

So the first half of the year was all about running, training for Comrades in Africa. That didn't quiet go as planned but that can be another post.

So anyhow in a moment of madness I signed up to do a full Iron man this December. The problem is that you have to sign up a year in advance, and shell out $740 as well. Now I have had this thing hanging over my head ever since.
I really just want to see how hard an Iron man is, I'm pretty sure its hard, but how hard, harder than running 100k? I'm guessing it is, but only one way to find out and that's do it. So since Comrades in June it has been all about switching training around and doing some riding. Well lots of riding. I cracked 650k on the bike for July and that worked out to be 25 hours on the bike.
Every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5am I have been riding out Bulong road with friends, Wayne and Bora. They are both stronger riders than me, hopefully they are getting something out of the ride as well. I think my riding is a bit like my walking and a tend to get slower unless I focus on trying to go fast. Well the morning temps have been down under 5 degrees which means my feet are frozen the whole ride.
Got a puncture this morning so that was "fun" changing a Tyre in the dark and cold. I cant complain too much i have been pretty lucky with punctures so far this year. (why did the spell checker want tyre to be a capital?)

As much as I would prefer to be just running, I think my body is responding to the variety that Iron man training provides.

Great news my wetsuit just arrived and a new pair of running shoes. I got the Mizuno Sayonara. Exciting times.
